Bandstands

September 3, 2018 By Jane Lewis Leave a Comment

We had a great time singing as part of Art Walk Porty in Porotbello on Saturday 1st September and oat the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street gardens on 8th September. We performed Ross Whyte’s piece The Great Exhibition – part of the Bandstands project –  and are singing on the bandstands app.

We sang heartily at the annual Portobello Wassail at the Donkeyfield Community Orchard on January 27th. It was an oasis of calm amidst stormy weather all around! Many thanks to Jon Davey for the great photos.

We had a wonderful sunny evening for our sea songs session on the beach. A fire kept us cosy as the sun started to go down and 8 of us plunged into the sea, singing as we swam! Thanks to Jon Davey for the lovely photos.

Portobello Streetfest December 3rd

January 4, 2016 By Jane Lewis Leave a Comment

A group of about 18 singers braved torrential rain and gail force winds to sing on the steps of the Town Hall to an appreciative audience for the switching on of the lights and late night shopping in Portobello. We were then invited to the Lothian Dance Academy where we dried out over a very welcome glass of gluwien and a piece of stollen thanks to Morag Phillips. We watched some stunning dancing, and then sang some more – we have already been invited back for next year!

Imagine Portobello

June 22, 2015 By Jane Lewis Leave a Comment

On 30th May Portobello Community Choir started the Imagine Portobello event off in style with an Aboriginal welcome song that we encouraged everyone to join in with. We also sang a rousing gospel song ‘Come along my friend’ as part of the opening ceremony and performed as part of the grand finale in the Old Parish Church at the end of the day. Many thanks to Jon Davey for these lovely photos.

Wassailing

January 29, 2015 By Jane Lewis Leave a Comment

Around 45 people came to the wassailing at PEDAL’s Donkeyfield Community Orchard on 24th January. Portobello Community Choir led the singing of wassails with style! We toasted the trees and enjoyed spiced apple juice and cakes round the bonfire.
